Climate Change: why we moved

Climate Change: why we moved

Text

Climate change has long been a concern for me. A major reason my husband and I moved from Virginia to Maine two years ago was because of climate change. The summers were becoming more and more unbearable in that region. For Maine, we considered the rate of climate change during our lifetime. Coastal living was preferable to inland because the coast is a bit more temperate for heat and cold. For rising sea level concerns, we wanted a home high enough above sea level to not become a problem. We added heat pumps to the house to cut back on the use of fossil fuels for heating in the winter and to have some A/C on hot days. Solar panels were also installed to provide electricity, and back up power comes from battery powered by the solar panels. Having done that, there are still a host of problems that climate change is bringing, including insect pests, bird and bee population decline, extreme weather events, and how all of it affects food production.
