Protect Air, Water, & Wilderness

Title

Protect Air, Water, & Wilderness

Description

We can protect the air by reducing its pollution and the harmful effects of climate change. One way to do this is by making good choices about transportation. When possible, we can walk or ride a bike. We can also choose an electric car or a car that gets better gas mileage. When buying our food, if we buy locally grown, it will cut down on the fossil fuels burned by trucking. Another way to protect the air is by trying to get our electricity from wind or solar power.

We can protect water by protecting the aquatic ecosystems that allow the necessary flows so that fish can access upper watersheds where temperatures are cooler. We also need to improve water quality. And we need to work on flood management now, before it’s too late.

We need to protect the wilderness because it teaches us how ecosystems work and how they respond to changing climate. The wilderness has a sustained biodiversity that protects the ecosystems and the various species in it. Also the wilderness provides us with important reminders of our human connection to the natural world as the climate changes.
