High Water Mark Sign
Title
High Water Mark Sign
Subject
Sea Level Rise, Community Awareness
Description
The City of Belfast is about to install High Water Mark signs in two locations along the Harbor Walk. The posts will denote the high water mark from the historic January 9, 1978 storm, with designations to illustrate if the sea level rises due to climate change 1.5 feet and 3.4 feet.
Pictured here is Sheila Warren delivering the signs to the Harbor Master. Sheila is employed by the Army Corps of Engineers and works with the Maine Silver Jackets, a collaborative initiative among federal, state and local partners to create and install the signs which will help community members visualize where flood water could be in the future.
Members of the City’s Climate Crisis Committee, the Harbor Master, the Maine DEP and the Army Corps of Engineers have designated the locations, the signs have arrived and will be installed soon!
