Carbon

Title

Carbon

Description

In this piece a juxtaposition of images suggests issues central to the climate crisis: a coal fired power plant extracts carbon out of the ground through the capillary-like lines of an inverted tree. A power-hungry executive swallows the fire of his own greed, probably burning himself in the process. A solution to the climate crisis would be a reversal of these images: invert the tree to a living, upright tree that captures carbon and returns it to the soil. Put out the fires, both the many fires of our over-consumption as well as our greed for excessive power and control. Power (energy, electricity, fuel) and power (political or economic power) are inextricably linked.
